Isaiah 9:1-7 Four Christian Names

In Isaiah 9, 4 double-barrelled names are given to a special child who will be a great king. We now know that the birth name of this child is Jesus. He is the light that dawns and shines on those walking in the darkness (Mt 4:12-17).

Wonderful Counsellor
He would be a person of extraordinary wisdom. In the Gospels. we read that all who heard Jesus were amazed at his teaching (Lk 2:47, Mt 7:28, Mt 13:54).

Mighty God
A direct claim to deity (Isa 10:21). Jesus was a divine champion; the miracles attest his deity, and upon the cross, he went head to head with Satan and crushed him, although in the process was himself wounded.

Everlasting Father
Another claim to deity. Jesus is the head of a spiritual family. He loves and cares for his children for whom he has secured eternal life (Jn 3:16, Jn 5:24, 1 Jn 5:11-13).

Prince of Peace
A prince of peace is a whole man - a perfectly integrated individual, at one with God, in harmony with others and the world over which he rules.

This Christmas, meditate upon these 4 names given to Jesus Christ. Are you listening to his wise counsel? Is he your champion? Are you part of his family? Will you rest in peace?
